I'm sorry to say, but if someone truly believes this is as close to the story in the book as it could be, they need to learn how to read. The Half-Blood Prince is such a wonderful book in how much it ties previous "small" events together and makes them huge in the final story line. I was amazed at how clever J.K. Rowling was in weaving the myriad of past details into one complex, exciting and rich plot. And this movie just disrespects and simplifies this book to the point of being a painful insult. If I were J.K. Rowling, I'd be seriously offended with the wanna-be director of this thing.
I love Harry Potter and I've never left a movie theater this disappointed at something that I have such affection for. HBP left so many essential things out, such as: the nature of Dumbledore's deteriorated condition, his own sacrifice so that Harry wouldn't intervene to try and protect him in the end, Harry's inheriting Sirious' old house, Kreacher, Bill and Fleur's wedding announcement, Harry and Genie's relationship, the story of Voldermort's mother and grandfather (which help people understand the origin and form of Horcruxes), etc. etc.
Unfortunately, the list is never ending. And I don't even want to get into the pathetic and uneventful way the director decided to do away with one of the most prominent characters besides Harry, Prof. Dumbledore. There was so much meaning in the way he passed, so many details that set up the story for the last book, and David Yates just flushed it all down the toilet! How could that ridiculous and inconspicuous shot of Dumbledore's phoenix flying away be the best way to end this movie?? Where was the whole beautiful singing and mourning of this beautiful bird that even in written, without sound, moved us readers to imagine the most beautiful notes and shed tears!!
I'm just devastated to know that Yates will direct the last movies. I can't believe that such a contemporary cultural landmark and literary jewel will meet its end in the hands of this talentless, shallow and apparently illiterate guy.
